Every person needs rest. However, true rest is difficult to find since we live in a chaotic world. Yet true rest is possible. We just need to understand it and then how to have it.

Point 1:  True rest is not the cessation of all activity.

We live in a chaotic world and it is impossible to avoid its chaos. In heaven we will be actively engaged in worship and still experience perfect rest (Revelation 14:13; 22:3). We need to experience heavenly rest in our lives here and now.

Point 2:  True rest involves the entire person.

The rest we need is not just about the physical it must include the mental, emotional, and spiritual. Yet without spiritual rest it is not possible to experience emotional and physical rest.

Many people labor to the point of utter exhaustion in a futile effort to please God and find the way of salvation. True rest is attained by trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Many believers stress out trying to please Gd in growing in the faith. The Lord does not want our Christianity to be a load that crushes us. He wanted us to enjoy a beautiful resting relationship with Him. (Galatians 3:1-3)

Often things happen that instigate emotional unrest in our lives. The solution is found in our relationship with Him as we draw near realizing that He is always with us and is always ready to carry our burdens for us. (1Peter 5:7; Philippians 4:4-7)

Point 3:  True rest is available in a relationship with Jesus.

Every person is yoked to something. The system of this world has yoked people with a heavy load. We need to cast off the yoke of the world system and join ourselves to Jesus for His yoke is light and gives us joyful rest.

This yoke means you will have a close abiding and loving relationship with Him. You can have that today and experience true rest.

Application Points:

  • Enter true rest by trusting in Jesus for eternal life.
  • Practice a daily time of rest.
  • Take times of transition.
  • Give yourself a day of rest.
